Spices from Kollimalai, the spice capital of Tamil Nadu - Naturally grow - Direct from farmers - Sustainably sourced
Direct from source to your kitchen
Our kutty story
Our goal is not just to sell groceries, we want to connect your family directly to the small farmers from the Kollihills area, and their natural produce. We sell what we and the neighboring small farmers grow, that our families have consumed for decades. We sell quality food that is grown naturally, and you can trace it to its origin.
Kollihills (Kollimalai) in Namakkal district in Tamil Nadu is considered the spice capital of Tamil Nadu. Every year, families pilgrimage to the Kollihills spice market to buy spices. Having grown up on a small farm near the Kollihills spice market, with parents still in active farming, we directly eat food from the source, which is our way of life.
This is a small effort of a guy from near the Kollihills and a guy from Chennai to share the love and food from small farmers at a reasonable price.
The produce
We have our cold-press oil mill where we extract all the oils.
Coconuts come from our farm which has more than 100 coconut trees. We buy the rest from our farmers and friends in the village.
We procure groundnuts and sesame from local farmers.
Spices like Cardamom, Pepper, Cloves, and Cinnamon are grown in lush green farms on the Kollihills, which is about 4000 ft above mean sea level.
Sorghum (Jowar), Finger Millet, and Pearl Millet are famous all-season crops of local farmers. This is the food our ancestors ate every day instead of rice. These are super healthy small grains that is packed with nutrients not found in any other grains. We procure them from a local mill that cleans, grinds and packs them.
We also have the required equipment to make palm leaf plates from the Areca betal nut palm leaves that we procure from farmers in the foothills of Kollimalai.
Yes, it’s the same food we eat back at home in Tamil Nadu, and that’s exactly what we wanted to feed our families here. We just want to share that with you.
Our Cold-Pressed Oil Extraction Unit
Oil is the most important base ingredient of South Indian recipes. It is also one of the hardest to cold press and obtain in its purest form. Unfortunately, this is also the reason why oils are the most easily adulterated. The cold-pressed oil we sell is from our family-owned mill overseen and quality-checked personally to ensure no impurities and adulterants make their way to the products.
